Simple Dijon Vinaigrette

Simple Dijon Vinaigrette

Simple Dijon Vinaigrette is a light and tasty dressing for your salad. Inspired by Maggiano’s Little Italy’s House Dressing, this vinaigrette is quick, easy, and delicious. It will quickly become your favorite goto dressing!  The only  problem you’ll have is trying to keep yourself from drinking it, it’s that good!

Why Make Your Own Homemade Salad Dressings?

This Simple Dijon Vinaigrette is just one of a number of salad dressings we make at home. We serve this to most of our guests and it’s always an absolute hit. One of our friends we had over kept threatening to drink it, she loved it that much. But why go through the effort to make your own? There are many reasons.

First, there really is little effort. My wife and I regularly make several different dressings, some of which are posted on this website – Blue Cheese, Ranch, Caesar Dressing, Greek Balsamic Vinaigrette, Lemon Vinaigrette, and many more. These all take only about 5 minutes to prepare.

Second, it’s healthier. Store bought dressings have lots of preservatives, sugars, chemicals, and more. There are ingredients like sawdust and wood pulp that companies are not required to list because they are considered “organic” additives. With homemade dressings, you know exactly what is going into the dressing. No mysteries or secrets.

Lastly, the cost. A $2.00 bottle of Italian Vinaigrette I can make for roughly $0.20. Yeah! Huge savings!

There’s so many more reasons that I could mention, like taste. I do buy some from the store, but very little. So, all things considered, I’ll spend the 5 minutes to make my own dressing if I can.

This dressing is inspired by Maggiano’s Little Italy’s House Dressing. If I like something when I eat out, I try to take some home with me so I can try to figure out how to make it at home. So I did that with this dressing. My wife and I both loved their version. So this is kinda a copycat version of their House Dressing.

Be careful not to over blend this. I kept making that mistake, and the taste kept coming out too overpowering with the canola oil. Therefore, the water to cut the oil flavor. I also took out some of my original ideas and added others. The dijon mustard was a real game changer. Once I added that, the flavor really blossomed. I strictly use Maille Dijon mustard and recommend the same for you. There’s just nothing better.

Quick Salad Idea from This Post

The salad in the photos is super easy. It has only 4 ingredients, and, again, is inspired by Maggiano’s Little Italy.

  • Chopped Romaine Lettuce
  • Sliced Red Onions
  • Fried Pancetta
  • Crumbled Gorgonzola Cheese

What Ingredients Are in Simple Dijon Vinaigrette?Simple Dijon Vinaigrette

  • Water
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Garlic minced
  • Oregano
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Canola Oil

How Is Simple Dijon Vinaigrette Made?

Combine all ingredients except the Canola Oil in a blender or small processor.  Blend until the dressing is smooth, about 10 seconds.

Be careful not to over blend the oil, otherwise, the dressing will have an over-pronounced oil flavor.

For best results, refrigerate for an hour.

How Long Will Simple Dijon Vinaigrette Keep?

You can keep this in your fridge for up to 7 days. As with any other vinaigrette, the oil will separate from the vinegar, so you’ll need to give it a good shake before using it again.
