Easy Homemade Remoulade Sauce
Easy Homemade Remoulade Sauce is a super simple sauce with tremendous flavor! This creamy sauce has a bit of tang from the Dijon mustard and lemon juice, bold flavor from cajun seasoning, and a mild touch spice from horseradish. Use this with your Cajun and Creole food. This comes together in 5 minutes and is so worth the time!
What Is Remoulade Sauce?
Rémoulade Sauce is a French mayo base sauce that’s used a lot in Cajun food. Some people say it’s Cajun tartar sauce because it sometimes has pickles in it. But the flavor is so different from tartar sauce. Remoulade often contains some other items dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, garlic, horseradish, cayenne pepper, anchovies, pickle juice, and a number of other ingredients depending on the personal expression of the one making it.
Easy Homemade Remoulade Sauce
I have always enjoyed a good remoulade sauce when eating out. As with just about everything else, I’ve had some that were excellent and some that should have just been put directly in the trash. I needed my own.
The thing I love about mayo and sour cream based sauces, dips, and dressings is they are so quick & easy to throw together. This keeps the fridge and pantry free from a lot of items that are easy to make at home. Making sauces, dips and dressings at home means that they also contain less preservatives and other “garbage” ingredients that are not needed.
Another benefit to making sauces, dips, and dressings at home is you can experiment with flavors with small amounts of relatively inexpensive ingredients. You can make your own amazing creations with ease!
Take a peek at the list of ingredients below. Many of them you probably already have in your pantry. They also have long shelf lives.
What Ingredients Are in Easy Homemade Remoulade Sauce?
- Mayonnaise
- Dijon Mustard
- Whole Grain Mustard
- Horseradish
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Lemon Juice
- Cajun Seasoning
- Paprika
- Fresh Garlic
Ingredient Notes
Dijon Mustard & Whole Grain Mustard – some recipes use only Whole Grain Mustard. I find the mix of the two different mustards offers a more balanced flavor which tastes so much better.
I use Maille Dijon Originale Traditional Dijon Mustard & Maille Old Style Mustard because I feel they are the best out there. You can use whatever you have, but I highly recommend Maille.
Cajun Seasoning – you can use your favorite store bought seasoning or make your own blend. My favorite store blend is McCormick Perfect Pinch Bayou Cajun Seasoning. Others are extremely salty. This one has very low salt content and great flavor.
Lemon Juice – some people use pickle juice instead of lemon juice. I personally find this too tart. But experiment with this yourself. You might like th pickle juice better.
